Creating An Impression

The goal of this assignment is to further deepen the knowledge acquired in class this semester in producing an effective speech presentation, please include the following criteria as a comment to this blog before our next class meeting on Thursday, May 21st.Find a clip of a presenter (celebrity, athlete, politician, etc.) on Youtube or some other video outlet available to you on the Internet, and evaluate why you feel he or she makes an impact on you through his/her speech. You can use the feedback form you will be using to evaluate your peer's presentation next week as a reference for what to look for in this review. This presenter can be making a speech, giving an interview or in a film as a character who makes an impact on you. The clip should not be more than two minutes (it is just a small part of the whole presentation). Place the url address of the link in the blog for me and your peers to look at as they review your posting. Additionally, be prepared to share why you chose this person in our class meeting on Monday. As stated, you can use Youtube, news site (CNN.com, msnbc.msn.com) live.com/video, TED Talks site or some other video sharing location on the web.

Despite all of the negative conflicts that we all associate with Aldof Hitler, I will admit I do admire how he went from being absolutely nothing to becoming a very important historical figure. Before you judge my choice, please take in to consideration my reasons:
*He had a 50/50 chance at gaining the publics interest.
*Not everyone agreed or even wanted to hear what he had to say.
*He never gave up on trying to gain the publics interest.
*He practiced all of his speaches infront of a mirror so he could see how he would present himself to the public, and how his hand motions emphasized what he was saying.

Although I do not agree or believe what he did was right, I admire him for never giving up, getting the public to follow him, and yet instilling fear into the people. He inspired the people by saying it was all for the best of the nation of Germany. People dedicated their lives to him because they believed in him. His speaches were very powerful, and dramatic. He was a great public speaker.

I really admire Martin Luther King Jr. because he made major changes for African Americans in the United States. He had so many supporters. When you watch his speeches you can see what looks like millions of people there listening. If it were not for him who knows what our country would be like today. He was arrested and assaulted many times and still never gave up. No matter what he continued speaking and protesting. Eventhough he is gone, he is still important. He has streets and schools named after him and also has his own holiday. he was a very strong and powerful person and I personaly believe that the person who assassinated him was scared that others were realizing he was right. Martin Luther King Jr. was an amazing speaker.

The person I chose is Martin Luther King Jr. The reason I chose him is because I admire how strong his speeches are. I also admire how great of a connection he has with his audience. His speeches are so touching; I feel they come straight from the heart. What MLK did for our country will never be forgotten. The reason I chose him as an influential speaker is because two things I feel he does when he speaks is has an awesome connection with his audience and has wonderful eye contact. I feel when I speak I stare at the floor or at one single thing in the room and that I ramble on and on about the same exact thing and loose people when I speak because they never know where I am going with my presentation. By the end of this semester I hope to improve on these two areas and become more of an influential speaker like MLK.

The person I pick is Barack Obama. He is just an amazing speaker. He had the country on a turn from republican to democratic in a lot of states that were always republican. He doesn't care that there are racists people out there and don't want him in office he just wants change in the office and make the country survive this economic tragedy. He even got people to vote for him that you wouldn't even see vote for him. Also at his ignaural address, more people were there than in any past ignaural address its really quite fantastic how amazing is speeches are

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Dr. Christine Northup presentation, because I felt like she was someone I already knew. She has a relaxed, witty and non threatening style to her presentation. I enjoyed her friendly optimistic energy and how she uses humorous analogies to capture the attention and understanding of the audience. She makes the audience feel part of the event allowing each person to feel they are having a more personal experience. Her body language and gestures all work together to enhance the topic being presented. Her use of a conversational tone and ability to be genuine about her topic she is presenting makes her a role model that I would like to emulate in any public speaking I might do.

The person I chose is Barack Obama. I admire him because his words inspire hope. He recognizes the major problems in our country and has plans to work on them.
When I watched his debates, I noticed his opponents talking negatively about him and shooting down his character, and I really admire that Obama didnt sink down to that level and attack them back, but he ignored it and stuck to the issues at hand.
I respect the fact that Obama chose to run for President in the first place. I think he is very brave in making that decision.
As far as Obama as a speaker, I feel his speeches are so natural. I also think he is very sincere in what he speaks about and he is very inspiring and keeps people interested in him.

There are many key attributes that define an individual as a powerful speaker; I believe that the most important of these elements is the ability to persuade your audience. Adolph Hitler, a German politician, was able to sway popular vote in his favor during the early 1900s. As many of us now acknowledge, his actions were not only immoral but detrimental to human society as a whole; despite this, what was his secret that made thousands of citizens believe in him and his unjust cause? It was his unique ability to persuade the masses to agree with his platforms and it is because of this aptitude that I admire him as an influential speaker.

One of the challenges faced by public speakers is captivating the attention of your audience and presenting your platforms as if there is no alternative. As exhibited in the attached link, Hitler displayed great power and authority during his speeches. Not everyone may have agreed with his ideals; however, he was able to convince the majority that his ideas were in the best interest of Germany as a whole. Hitler was successful in his uprisings, which in my opinion, earns him a spot as a prominent, historical speaker.

Who do I look up to as a good public speaker? I believe that president Obama is a great speaker. He is very confident and calm. He acknowledges everyone in the room by making eye contact and looking in all directions. He has no hesitation and speaks clearly. We have many problems in the US today, and he recognizes them and plans on fixing everyone of them. He gives the American people hope, that's why I look up to him as a good speaker.

One of the most inspirational speeches I've ever heard comes from Al Pacino in the movie Any Given Sunday. This speech is arguably one of the best speeches in any sports movie. It revolves around how life and football is both a game of inches, and how you need to fight to get to every inch. Nothing in life is handed to you. It all comes down to how bad you want something, and how you got to give your all to get it; not only on the field, but also in life.

Al Pacino is by far one of the greatest actors of all time. I was inspired by this speech because it is just so real and inspirational. He is very positive and determined through out the whole speech. Positive in what he is saying, and determined to make sure his players realize that they can win not only on the football field, but also in life. To me that is what makes a coach a true coach.

The person I admire as a speaker is our 44th President, Barack Obama. As he speaks you can see how he tries to make eye contact with everyone to let them see that he is very serious and means what he says. Obama sometimes uses hand gestures as he speaks to always catch the audience’s attention. He always talks loud and clear so that everyone could understand him. Barack Obama always has his audience interested in him and he also inspires a lot of people. I like how Obama is always so strong and confident when he gives his speeches, even though some people put him down. Barack Obama is a great speaker and also an awesome person; he is definitely the right person to make some changes in this country.

In the movie Braveheart, the speech that Mel Gibson gives as William Wallace before the Battle of Sterling, in my opinion, is a prime example of a perfect motivational speech. During the speech, Wallace inspires the Scottish army to believe in itself and believe in him. To do this, he had to show that he wasn't just trying to become the field General of Amries but also a comrad to every soldier standing next to him. Humility to show country before the individual countryman is what helps him win over the soldiers.

As a public speaker, I look up to Hillary Clinton. When speaking to a crowd, she keeps eye contact with the everyone. As she reads from her notes, she does not stumble over any words and knows when to pause to allow the crowd to react. She holds her self confidently through out the entire length of her speech, leaving people listening intently because of the authority she holds. I believe Hillary's confidence is what makes her a great public speaker.

I am not familiar at all with the speech presenter I chose for this assignment, however from the fifteen minute clip I viewed doing a little searching on the Ted website that was hyperlinked on our assignment blog page, I felt his public speaking style was of one that was admirable to me. The speech presenter of this clip is a gentleman named Joseph Pine. This clip is of him delivering an informative speech to probably a small to moderate size crowd about authenticity in our economy. His style had many traits I would like to possess for my own public speaking situations I will have when I am in front of my own classroom and speaking on occasions like Back to School Nights and such. I found the presenter to be prepared to deliver his information with an informative yet non lecturing style. His voice tone and annunciation of his words lent to an enjoyable listening experience. He appeared comfortable speaking and conveying his talking points. He had infliction and expression in his speech which also rendered his style as one for his audience to connect with and stay tuned into even if they were not agreeing with the content. Mr. Pine also presented his speech with a bit of interactive commentary with his audience, as well as, with body language to stimulate and keep his audience visually engaged. In summation, I believe Joseph Pine delivered and demonstrated many very good public speaking characteristics in this video clip.

Angelina Jolie has been one of my favorite, most inspirational actresses. She has an air about herself that she carries where she is very elequint when she speaks, as well as calm and collected; yet can be funny and outrageous at the same time.

I picked this video because the movie "Girl, Interrupted" is my favorite movie of all times. It has also had a huge impact on my life, and has changed the way I percieve things. The character she played, Lisa, was a very intense role, and to listen and learn how she prepared for the role is also interesting.

I have always admired Brad Pitt as an actor, speaker and a person. Many of us have seen a lot of his movies. They were either hysterically funny or the most serious role that had you believe every word that was coming out of his mouth. Brad Pitt loves to contribute to people whos lives were effected by the hurricanes. He has always been donating or just helping in some way possible. In his interview he comes out saying how he hates papparazzi and how he feels about marriage. He said,"When everyone can get married, then I will get married." His form of speaking is just bold and inspirational, so that is why I look up to him.

The person I chose was former US President George W. Bush. Thou you may not believe he was a great speaker, he did give an amazing speech on the night of September 11, 2001 a date and speech I am sure you are all familiar with. The speech reassured Americans to pull together, “from all walks of life,” for a common cause and help humanity and not let racism or status conflict in a time of need. It is what America needed to hear after having our freedom attacked leaving us vulnerable. He was confident in saying that America will search for those who responsible for these attacks and all who harbor these terrorists. And telling America that our economy will be open for business the following day. The speech was a uniting speech to bring all Americans together for a common goal. On a day when Americans saw nothing but evil President George Bush kept Americans faithful, strong, and determined to keep our freedoms free.

• On that night I feel George W. Bush gave an amazing speech one that filled Americans with hope and pride
• George W. Bush made good points and strived to connect with his audience
• George W. Bush talks loud and clear so that everyone can understand him

I chose Barrack Obama because he is an inspiration to all Americans. Obama speeks with confidence, enthusiasm, and hope for our union's future. He is a soothing public speaker when addressing the nation. He acknowledges America's problems with seriousness and I believe he speaks with total honesty. I have confidence that Obama will lead America into a new era of prosperity for all Americans.
